Chesham Grammar School was originally founded in 1947, as a school for boys. It became fully co-educational in 1970.
The school has expanded considerably in recent years and now comprises nearly 1300 pupils, of which 400 are in the sixth form.
Recent years have seen major developments of the school site, including a new mathematics block, a textiles block, an art block, expansion of the English block, a new library, and a new performing arts area. CGS pupils are fortunate to have access to Chesham Leisure Centre facilities which shares the site with the school.
CGS has moved forward considerably in the last few years with a greater emphasis on academic rigour, commitment to school life and the highest pupil aspiriations. Our examination results, higher education profile, musical, artistic and sporting achievements are flourishing year on year.
Chesham Grammar School has immense strengths in all areas of the curriculum, and are fortunate enough to be fully staffed by highly qualified teachers who are excited and passionate about their subjects. Our teachers possess the skills to inspire, motivate and lead our pupils to life-long success.
Lessons are imaginative, challenging and based on active learning, where pupils discover for themselves; a thirst for knowledge and an enduring mind are the requisites for success. Dynamic and hands-on teaching means that pupils enjoy their studies in an atmosphere that is relaxed yet purposeful. Our aim is to equip young people with the tools to become independent learners, thinkers and dreamers.
Creativity stimulates and broadens the mind and, at Chesham Grammar School, all pupils follow courses in music, art, drama and dance, and participate in myriad departmental acitivites and student-led House competitions.
