Our pupils and their development are the heart beat of our school. We are totally committed to continual improvement in both maths and literacy, but firmly within the context of the development of the “whole” child, nurturing and allowing them to flourish as good people with well developed resilient social skills, and able to express themselves with confidence. Within a caring environment we enable our pupils to become self assured, confident individuals. We aspire, always, to a “CAN DO” attitude, and believe that learning should be FUN! Consequently, The Hill is a buzzy place to learn.
Staff appreciate the importance of raising pupil self-worth, and we are determined to continue to offer varied opportunities for our pupils particularly through the creative performing arts, and participation in competitive sport. Providing high standards in these areas is a significant strength of our school.
We work within an ethos of constantly raising standards for pupils- this is non-negotiable and firmly at the heart of all we do. As a result our performance, particularly with stretching the more able has improved with Level 3s at KS1 and Level 5s at KS2 having increased rapidly over the past 4 years.
Above all, we endeavour to create exciting learning opportunities in our curriculum which help to develop emotional resilience. I believe these life skills will equip our pupils to cope with uncertainty in later life: to cope with differing perspectives, to cope with working with different kinds of people; and above all – to be able to ask well thought out questions! We can only guess at the type of world our pupils will enter into as adults...but feel sure that the skills and attitudes developed by our children at The Hill will be essential to their success in the future.
