'Beaconsfield High School is an outstanding school where students have keen appetites for learning. The school exemplifies its motto: Discovering and developing individual potential.' (Ofsted 2007)
Beaconsfield High School is a Local Authority maintained foundation school. It is a five-form entry selective school for academically able girls. Entry to the school at eleven years is based on verbal reasoning testing and 150 girls are normally admitted each year. Buckinghamshire is a wholly selective authority and 38% of its students are currently deemed qualified for grammar school. There is a large Sixth Form of over 300 students; there is strong competition for the limited number of external places offered each year.
Aims and Ethos
Beaconsfield High School is renowned for its happy, secure and inclusive atmosphere. During their seven years at the school, girls are challenged to reach the highest academic standards and to develop their potential to the full. In addition to delivering a rigorous and varied curriculum, we aim to extend girls' horizons by providing them with a wide variety of opportunities and activities including sports, the performing arts, public speaking and debate, leadership development, community service and overseas visits. Strong parental and community support is a highly valued feature of the school. Parental contributions and fund-raising have greatly enhanced our accommodation and facilities.
Examination Success
Girls at Beaconsfield High School are highly motivated independent learners and they achieve excellent examination results. The school is regularly featured at the highest levels in both GCSE and A level league tables and in the national press. In 2009, the value added score was 1005.6 and the school was the top performing grammar school in Buckinghamshire for 3 levels of progress between KS2 and 4.
